ARCASIA Students’ Architectural Design Competition – June 2016
This is a design ideas competition that invites students in the field of Architecture to contribute ideas and concepts that respond to the theme “Green Lifestyle”. Each country is facing their own sustainability concerns and students are encouraged to identify, at the same time resolve, these issues by using architectural designs.
Objectives of the competition
Students are free to select a site to come up with design ideas, built or portable or a prototype, which would encourage users to participate in a green and sustainable lifestyle. Students are encouraged to think along lines of cost effectiveness, energy efficiency, low carbon footprint, zero carbon emission and implementable means that may resolve an identified problem found in your particular region of Asia, or one which might even be effective when adapted in many different situations.
For this year’s competition IAP received the following entries:
1 Sustainable Approach To Urban Agriculture by Abdul Wasay, University of Karachi
2 Eco Shelter by Arsalan Khan, University of Karachi
3 Green Shelter by Hamdan Ahmed Baig, University of Karachi
4 Climate Responsive Space by Syed Shah Salman, University of Karachi
5 Urban Lounge by Maira Ghayoor, University of Karachi
6 PASSI-LA-VISTA by Syed Shabab Ali, Syed Hammad Haider, Syed Shajee Haider, Junaid Khan and Asad Nasir, NUST, Islamabad
BAE-IAP setup a jury on 14th June 2016 in Karachi comprising of the following:
Ar. Najmi Hassan – Vice President IAP
Ar. Arshad Faruqui – Chairman BAE-IAP
Ar. Khadija tul Kubra
Ar. Amir Chaudhry
Ar. Ramiz Baig – Convener and Honorary Secretary IAP
The two entries which were sent to ARCASIA for the final jury were:
Eco Shelter by Arsalan Khan of Univeristy of Karachi and Urban Lounge by Maira Ghayoor of Univeristy of Karachi
These 2 entries joined the 28 other entries from 19 member countries for final jury.
